  #LAST… MARKET YOUR SERVICES !!!

ASSESS YOUR SKILLS, WORK HABITS AND LIFESTYLE

To achieve a good "fit" between you and any future opportunity, you have to ask yourself some soul-searching questions about yourself--and your potential for success as a self-employed person. The fit depends on how well your business and its operation fits  your skills and abilities meet the demands of that business.

Write out the factors that are important to you in an opportunity... actually write out your list.  During your career transition, you learn the value of setting your "offer" criteria, in this case it would be objective criteria by which to judge ANY opportunity.  In fact, the two options come together in today's marketplace.  When you find the right work, it could be a terrific offer of  employment OR the right situation for you to become self-employed.  Your criteria should:

  1. Create an objective target for your efforts ahead;
  2. Give you a meaningful set of questions to ask during research and networking;
  3. Provide an objective way to analyze and react to opportunities as they occur.

HAVE A SUPPORT TEAM IN PLACE:  RESOURCES ... WHO ?

Just as any corporation would have it's board of directors, so should any self-employed individual have his own sounding "board" or support team wrapped around the business.  This would include, at the very least, objective, third-party legal and financial experts.  Other members would be functional "experts" in areas where your skills and experience are not optimal.
