Knowing WHAT you’re selling is where you must start.  This product analysis is a critical first step in the process.  Just like positioning yourself in the JOB Marketplace, giving definition to your business is critical to its success.  Its the basis upon which you operate in the marketplace, the foundation of your Market Plan:

  • What is my target market;

  • Who are my customers and what do they need;

The next step is a careful market analysis. With exactly which services and resources will you address those customer needs?

  • What are the benefits of your work to the customer?

  • What are the expected result of your work?

Part of effective market analysis is knowing your competition. 

  • Who offers the same or related services?

  • What is your uniqueness, or competitive advantage? 

Even though you may never need it for financing or other purposes, it is wise to actually write up your Personal Market Plan.  Just like the time spent in preparing to draft an effective resume--The time, effort, research and networking you invest in your Market Plan development PRIOR TO marketing your services is critical to your success.
